Fruit Buyer’s Report | Fruitful Office August 2014

Dear All,

I hope you are all well and have been enjoying your summer. We at Fruitful Office certainly have and the different varieties available certainly make my job a bit easier at this time of the year! Here are this month's highlights:

  • Blueberries.Blueberries are currently my berry of choice at this time of the year. Quality is good given the more plentiful supply. Blueberries are a superstars - they consistently rank as having one of the highest antioxidant capacities among all fruits and vegetables. But their health benefits list goes on and on: cardiovascular benefits, cognitive benefits, blood sugar balance benefits and eye health.
  • Greengages.Greengages are a variety of the common European plum characterised by their small size, green colour and sweet taste. Given their sweetness, people often use them in desert recipes. Originally from Asia Minor, these plums found their way to France around the fifteenth century where they became known as "Reine Claude". Be sure to buy the Veritable variety which are the genuine Reine Claude greengages, the original variety hardly changed in hundreds of years. Other variety like Bavari and Oullen will not be as sweet so keep clear.
  • Grapes. The European grape season is in full force and we are currently focusing on Spanish crimson which have been surprisingly good. Greek Thompson are also sweet and tasty so also worth keeping an eye on. Grapes are rich in natural sugars which stimulate the brain and prolong performance. European local fruit is in season, so be sure to take advantage of this.

Stay healthy everyone.
