Office fruit is a healthy snack

When you go to the office fruit delivery, you probably take something that’s not only tasty, but also healthy.

Plums are a good choice. They’ve got a high antioxidant content, which fights damage caused to cells from molecules known as free radicals that attack cells and increase the risk of heart disease and cancer.

You should probably try to eat as many snacks from the office fruit basket as possible since the government has just announced it will not be introducing a ban on harmful trans fats in foods.

Health watchdog the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (Nice), last month called on the government to ban the fats from food products, as it claimed 40,000 lives could be saved each year if they were not in food items.

The Daily Mail reported that health secretary Andrew Lansley has decided to reject the Nice guidelines.

"Voluntary action by the UK food industry had reduced levels of trans fatty acids in fats and oils used in food production to a minimum," the news provider reported Mr Lansley as saying.

"The low levels of average trans fatty acid intakes by the UK population…are considered to be within safe levels."

Eating something from the office fruit box rather than a sugary snack is the best way to avoid trans fats altogether.
