Fruit really does make you happy!

We all know that fruit is healthy. But it can also make you very happy, which is doubly fruit-tastic! Fruit isn’t only great for your physical health, it also does wonders for your psychological well-being.

1. Feeling happy thanks to antioxidants

As well as natural sugars, your body also derives various minerals and antioxidants from fruit. These ensure a genuine energy boost. Take a banana, for example: it’s packed with natural sugars that provide long-lasting energy. Bananas are also great for your blood pressure due to the potassium in them. Around 11% of the dietary fibre we consume comes from fruit. Small red fruit in particular, such as forest fruits, contain many antioxidants that are good for your body. Carotenoids are an example of the important antioxidants in fruit. This natural orange colouring is found in, for example, oranges. Carotenoids contain a lot of β-carotene, which is also found in vitamin A. This substance is a fat-soluble, which reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. Research shows that optimistic people have more carotenoids in their blood. That just proves again that fruit is not only healthy, it also makes you happy!

2. Fruit inspires you at work

An apple a day really keeps the doctor away (and the psychologist according to the University of Warwick, Australia). You’ll benefit the most by eating a minimum of 500g of fruit per day. Fruit is colourful and sweet-smelling (which already makes us happy!). It also increases productivity and creativity and improves morale at work, reducing the incidence of sick leave. Research by the University of Warwick shows that fruit makes you both happier and healthier. We think that’s a great reason to grab a piece of fruit instead of a chocolate bar! In the long term, your daily portion of fruit will contribute to greater health and happiness. Extra important: according to the same research, your feeling of satisfaction increases per serving of fruit. So, eat lots of fruit and be happy!

3. Farewell to depression!

It’s been proven that fruit makes us feel calmer and more energised. This is due to serotonin, which contributes to a feeling of well-being, making fruit a natural antidepressant. You feel better and healthier, and more capable of overcoming stress and depression. Healthy eating helps your brain to work optimally and keeps your hormone production in balance. This helps to improve the serotonin levels in your brain, making you feel better mentally and reducing feelings of nervousness and anxiety. Sufficient production of serotonin is therefore important for that positive vibe at the office. Hello happy feelings and goodbye burnout!

Bring on the fruit!
