NHS and Food Standards Agency guidance

Fruitful Office has been closely following the UK government and Food Standard Agency’s guidelines around suitable hygiene and distancing measures to be followed in the workplace.

As a fruit distributor, we are already following the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety system, and Fruitful Office’s hygiene procedures are already signficantly stricter than a non-food business. In line with our ISO-9001 status, adherence to these measures is closely controlled and we provide ongoing training and support to ensure the guidelines are met.

We are reinforcing existing measures with an even higher level of vigilance in order to minimise as much risk as possible. We have carried out a COVID-19 Risk Assessment, and from this we have implemented a health & safety plan, which includes the following key measures:

General staff hygiene controls:

  • Daily screening of operational staff for potential symptoms prior to entry into communal area of work hubs
  • Formal training to all staff on minimising risk inside and outside the workplace (Do’s and Don’ts)
  • Formal training to all staff on identifying potential illness symptoms and what to do if detected on oneself or observed on another employee

Staff social distancing controls:

  • Staggered arrival times for staff, one-way staff movement systems and floor/wall distance signs
  • Established rule for all staff to maintain a distance of 2 metres between all other staff members inside or outside the opertaional hubs and offices. Common areas are limited to maximum staff numbers
  • Production staff are working in a “side-by-side” production stance (not face-to-face), and standing at a 2-metre distance from each other

Production hygiene controls:

  • During production, staff must wear the following PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): a face mask, gloves and a hair net, as well as a protective coat
  • Before each member of staff enters (or re-enters) the production area, they must deep-wash their hands, and then put on new PPE

Workplace hygiene controls:

  • Face mask use by all staff at all times on premises
  • Hand-sanitizer dispensers are provided at key locations
  • Where possible, internal doors inside our operational hubs are left open to permit a minimal need for door contact
  • High-contact points in our operational hubs are disinfected at regular intervals during each day

Delivery-specific controls:

  • Drivers wear PPE during deliveries (masks and gloves)
  • Drivers trained to maintain a 2 metre distance between themselves and other people during deliveries
  • Daily cleaning of van load area and driver cabin

Third-party controls:

  • Minimisation of face-to-face meetings with interviewees, supplier or contractor staff, and clients unless absolutely critical
  • If entry is required, then symptom screening of any third-party visitors prior to entry and hand-sanitisation upon entry

Constant communication between our central and regional teams to ensure consistency of control measures in our operational hubs nationwide

We will continue to monitor the situation and guidance provided by the NHS and the UK Government and will issue an updated version of our strategy if the circumstances change.
