Planting Fruit Trees campaign update: July to September 2023
A new, improved, variety of Papaya fruit trees
- The Papaya fruit tree is well loved by both farmers and Malawian families alike: a great source of Vitamin A and Vitamin C, fast growing (they reach maturity within one year of planting) and high yielding (20 to 40 fruits per tree)
- On the negative side, they have historically been challenging to harvest due to their height
- Fortunately, this has now changed with the introduction of a shorter variety. Farmers are delighted with the initiative, and we have just started sowing these seeds in our ‘tree clubs’
