Rebuilding the land: Katrina’s story

In Mankhwazi Village, Salima District, the Ripple Africa team in Malawi visited farmer Katrina, a mother of eight and grandmother of six, and her son Severiano.

Katrina explained: “We used to have lots of trees and reliable rainfall. This is not the case now. I wanted to plant trees for my children so that they benefit in future.” Katrina has already planted 4,000 acacia trees on once-degraded farmland and plans to plant thousands more.

Her son Severiano shared: “My mother raised me; this is the time for me to give back and help her.

Their commitment shows how families are taking ownership of restoring their environment, protecting soil and water, and building a sustainable future for the next generation.
