Throwback Thursday – May 2006

Back in May 2006 we acquired our first van.

It was not a new van. In fact, it was already 5 years old and we found it online - choosing it mainly because it was cheap and, at least appearance-wise, appeared in good shape. We rode a scooter out to see it on a rainy Saturday morning at a remote farm close to Heathrow airport (United Kingdom). This was clearly not a dealer (so no guarantee was offered) and given our negligible knowledge of mechanics we had no idea of what we were buying! The barking dogs added to the eeriness of the transaction. But we had to take the risk since our first week of fruit deliveries was scheduled for a few weeks' time.

But this first van served its purpose and, despite a few minor breakdowns, remained with us for a further 5 years before we sold it onto another enterprising dealer who drove it all the way to Scotland.

We now operate a growing fleet of new vans to ensure our office fruit reaches our clients in the best possible shape. But our first van will remain in our memory as the one that got everything going. In the attached photo you can see this van heading into London early one morning to deliver our fruit baskets.
