Planting Fruit Trees campaign update: April to June 2014

Total trees planted so far: 803,905

Focus: the tree planting timeline

Jul-Dec: The seeds are planted and raised

  • Seeds and polythene tubes (for protection) are provided to some 10,000 households, as well as many community centres
  • Advice and monitoring provided

Dec-Feb: Trees are planted out in the rainy season

  • With the correct water and weeding, Guava and Papaya trees grow quickly and can now be transferred to their final planting site
  • Trees are planted locally -either next to homes or in local fields

+2-3 years: The trees grow and produce fruit

  • The trees improve local soil conditions and provide the households with fruit -either to eat or sell for profit
